Why We're Raising Funds
ARISE High Schoolis a small charter school in the Fruitvale area of Oakland, California.We are in the second year of our first five-year charter. Our missionis to serve children who will be the first to attend college. TheFruitvale is considered a high-need neighborhood; 75% of our studentsare on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, and the overwhelmingmajority speak a language other than English as their primary language(usually Spanish).
We need funds to equip our biology labs withglassware, visual aids, preserved specimens and other educational gear.In our first year we obtained electronic balances and basic dissectionkits, but we have no other equipment yet. If we can raise enough moneyfor it, we would also like to take our students on a canoe trip with SAVE THE BAY,which will educate them about the ecological interactions in SanFrancisco Bay and the environmental problems currently troubling thearea.
